About Dr. Chua
Dr Chua Hwa Sen is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery with a sub-speciality in Arthroplasty. His areas of expertise include adult hip and knee joint reconstruction and revision surgery, pelvic and acetabulum trauma management, as well as shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery. He is also an expert in computer assisted orthopaedic surgery (CAOS) and minimal invasive orthopaedic surgery and traumatology (MIO).
He is fully registered under the Malaysian Medical Council since August 2003 (Reg. No. 39864) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia and Academy of Medicine of Malaysia’s National Specialist Register. He is currently a Consultant Orthopaedic, Joint, and Arthroplasty Surgeon in Sunway Medical Center. Prior to this, he was plying his trade in Pantai Hospital Penang as well as Penang Ganeral Hospital. He has a passion for teaching and was the honourable Orthopaedic Lecturer for Penang Medical College, teaching medical students. He has also been involved directly in training Orthopaedic trainees of various levels.
His medical journey began when he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS from University of Malaya in 2002. He then furthered his specialisation and surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic by attaining a Master of Surgery (Orthopaedic), MS Orth qualification from University of Malaya as well.
He completed the Malaysian Ministry of Health subspecialty training in arthroplasty for 3 years, inclusive of a one year oversea fellowship, during which he completed an Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Accredited fellowship in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction and Arthroplasty at The Prince Charles Hospital & Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital, Brisbane, Australia.
His involvement in numerous fellowships and clinical attachments at various renowned institutions worldwide also helped him amassed meaningful experiences in the Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery

Research & Publications
Besides attending to patients at his clinic, Dr. Chua is also passionate about research and education. His most important research article was published in The Journal of Arthroplasty, May 2018, with the title “Mortality and Implant Survival with Simultaneous and Staged Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty Experience From The Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry.”

His belief in sharing his expertise to benefit more patients has seen him regularly invited to teach on courses in the Asia-Pacific region, instructing other surgeons how to perform the latest techniques in joint reconstruction and trauma surgery. He has also presented at many international conferences to share his knowledge and experiences.
